Message from His Holiness the Dalai
Lama - September 23, 2007: I extent my support and solidarity with the recent peaceful movement
for democracy in Burma. I fully support their call for freedom and democracy
and take this opportunity to appeal to freedom-loving people all over the
world to support such non-violent movements.
Moreover, I wish to convey my sincere appreciation and admiration
to the large number of fellow Buddhists monks for advocating democracy
and freedom in Burma. As a Buddhist monk, I am appealing to the members
of the military regime who believe in Buddhism to act in accordance with
the sacred dharma in the spirit of compassion and non-violence.
I pray for the success of this peaceful movement and the early release
of fellow Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.

rope, especially for a woman of such grace."

Letter for Aung San Suu Kyi - 06 September
2007:
"Dear United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon,
We are writing to urge you to personally intervene to secure the release
of the world's only imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Aung San Suu
Kyi. As you know, she has been held under house arrest in the Southeast
Asian country of Burma for 12 of the past 17 years. On June 19th, she spent
her 62nd birthday under house arrest.
Aung San Suu Kyi is not just a charismatic leader, she is the elected
leader of the Burmese people. In Burma's last election, she won 82% of
the seats in parliament, yet the military regime cruelly locked her up
along with many members of her party. Meanwhile, according to the United
Nations expert on human rights in Burma, the ruling military regime has
burned down or otherwise destroyed over 3,000 villages in eastern Burma,
forcing over 1 million and a half people to flee their homes.
This courageous, brave woman whom many call "Burma's Nelson Mandela"
should be released and the military regime should end its attacks on civilians.
We urge you to take action to secure her immediate release."

Message to United Nations from Jim
Carrey - Friday, October 5, 2007:
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Actor Jim Carrey urged the U.N. Security Council
on Friday to ban all international arms shipments to Myanmar to pressure
the country to end its brutal suppression of pro-democracy protesters and
its detention of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
"This is a government that uses its weapons not in self defense, but
against its own citizens," the actor/comedian told a news conference across
the street from the United Nations. "(It's) a brutal and sadistic regime
that has for decades tried to squash the will of its people through mass
relocation, rape and murder," said Carrey.
"The time has come for the United Nations Security Council to start
acting less like a group of corporations and more like united nations,"
he said, urging China and Russia -- Security Council members that have
been resistant to sanctions -- as well as India to back the ban.
He also made an appeal to Than Shwe, head of the latest junta in 45
unbroken years of military rule of the former Burma: "There is nothing
to defend if you have lost the faith of your people. It is already over."

Annie Lennox, world famous singer and her band
Faithless, on the crisis in Burma - October 2007: "The whole world is watching Burma, a country whose people have been
repressed by a brutal military dictatorship for too long. The peaceful
protest that began only days ago by Buddhist monks is coming to a climax.
We wait to see if it will culminate in yet another bloody massacre. Aung
San Suu Kyi, the Nobel Peace Prize winner, and rightful leader of Burma,
has been forcefully and criminally interned under house arrest for too
many years. It is time for Burma to be set free. It is time for justice
and human rights to prevail"
"We in the band remain astonished and humbled by the unbelievable courage
and humanity of the Buddhist order and the people of Burma. The actions
of the ruling Junta are an abomination and the international community
should take immediate steps to remove this evil, wicked regime and return
the country to its people."

Archbishop Desmond Tutu speaking about
Aung San Suu Kyi: "She is my pin-up! I have 2 pictures of her in my office. One, a photograph
taken during her last period of freedom. The other, a very beautiful one,
sent to me by my dear sister herself. She inspires me with her gentle determination.
In the face of the viciousness of the military regime, who so callously
refused to let her dying husband visit her to say goodbyeS. She has demonstrated
just how potent goodness is. Men, armed to the teeth, are running scared
of her. When those men are no more than the flotsam and jetsam of history
her name will be emblazoned in letters of gold. She has already won, and
they know they have lost. I love her, and I am in awe of her. God bless
her".
"The only real prison is fear, and the only
real freedom is freedom from fear." - Aung San Suu Kyi.
